Woman Nabbed With Counterfeit $100 Bills, Greenwich Police Say

A 36-year-old woman was nabbed by Greenwich Police for allegedly attempting to purchase items using counterfeit money.

Melleisa Alvaranga, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 16, after police responded to a business on Greenwich Avenue for a report of a woman attempting to pass counterfeit money, said the Greenwich Police.

When officers arrived on the scene they found Alvaranga who was allegedly in possession of five $100 counterfeit bills, police said.

Police said Alvaranga had also attempted to pass the counterfeit money at another establishment.

She was charged with forgery and criminal attempt at larceny.

Alvaranga was released after posting a $500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Jan. 31.
